Gordon College

ASSOCIATE OF ARTS DEGREE IN TEACHER EDUCATION

Gordon College offers an Associate of Arts Degree in Teacher Education through the college transfer program. This program is designed to allow students to complete the first two years of course work leading to a baccalaureate degree. After graduation from Gordon, the program allows students to transfer their course work to another University System institution, continue their studies for an additional two years, and receive the baccalaureate degree.

Gordon transfer programs comply with the Core Curriculum of the University System of Georgia. Under the guidelines of the Core Curriculum, a student who completes the approved Core at Gordon College or any particular Area within the Core may transfer this course work to any other state college, two-year college, senior college, or university within the University System without loss of credit.

Students may choose to follow three general programs of study within the Core Curriculum:

  • Early Childhood Education
  • Middle Grades Education
  • Secondary Education

Beginning in the fall of 2007, the freshmen and sophomore level classes will include two additional science courses for students pursuing an education degree for elementary teaching. The two new courses are Life / Earth Science, and Physical Science. Additionally, a new math course in foundations of numbers and operations will be offered. The three pre-professional education courses have been revised to include Investigating Critical & Contemporary Issues in Education, Exploring Socio Cultural Perspectives on Diversity in Educational Contexts, and Exploring Learning and Teaching. The University System Board of Regents will also require students who want to teach middle grades with mathematics as one of their two concentrations, to take the Pre-Calculus course.
