APPLICATION AND ADMISSIONS INFORMATION

New Nursing students are accepted into the Nursing Program by way of a special admissions procedure, which goes beyond admission into the College.

The Nursing Program offers two tracks depending on the student's educational background. The first track is the "generic" or regular program. Information concerning application to the generic program is given below. The second track, the LPN Accelerated Program, has specific admission requirements. Applicants seeking admission to the LPN Accelerated Program should go to the LPN Admission Requirements page.

Generic students admitted to the Nursing Program begin nursing courses Fall semester of each year. Enrollment is limited. Students are encourage to take general education courses prior to admission into the Nursing Program. (See the Nursing Program List of Courses.)

Admission Procedures for Generic (Regular) and LPN Students

Exclamation markNOTE:  Students must apply to and be accepted by Gordon College prior to applying to the Nursing Program. The Nursing Department cannot process an application until the applicant receives an acceptance letter from Gordon College.

To be considered for acceptance in the Nursing Program, students must do the following:

  1. Apply for admission to Gordon College. Students should indicate on the College application form that their major is "Pre-Nursing".
  2. Be accepted by Gordon College. Students enrolled in Learning Support must complete all of the required classes for these areas prior to application.
  3. Apply for admission to the Nursing Program.
    1. Contact the Nursing Office at 770-358-5197 to request an application.
    2. If previously enrolled in a nursing program on another campus, also request a reference form for that school.
    3. Minimum requirements for applicants:
      • Eligibility for college level English and Math
      • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 and in good standing with the college
  4. To be considered for acceptance into the nursing program, students must have:
    1. a final acceptance to Gordon College;
    2. an exemption from or completion of all Learning Support course work;
    3. a completed Nursing Program application form;
    4. a minimum grade of 2.00 ("C") on each core course required for the nursing curriculum;
    5. a minimum overall grade point average of 2.00 on all course work attempted; and
    6. a completed Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS).
  5. Be able to meet Technical Standards.

It is strongly suggested that all core course requirements be completed prior to entering the nursing program. Generally the first year of study is spent on campus taking core course requirements for the nursing curriculum.

NOTE: ADMISSION TO THE NURSING PROGRAM IS SELECTIVE AND COMPETITIVE. APPLICANTS WITH THE STRONGEST CREDENTIALS WILL BE ACCEPTED FIRST AND OTHERS ON A SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS. TO BE ADMITTED TO THE PROGRAM, YOU MUST RECEIVE A LETTER OF ACCEPTANCE FROM THE NURSING DEPARTMENT.
