Chad's In-Depth Personal Policy Explanation

The Web is an interesting place.  By it's very nature it is an always changing collection of ideas, images and concepts.  Some of these are probably going to be offensive to you.  Some others are likely offensive to a great number of the people that might view them.  Nevertheless, such sites are allowed, by law, to exist under the First Amendment to the Constitution.  Hence, the web can be a dangerous place.

As a Christian man, I have a very well defined type of material I support on the web.  This is material that is educational, insightful and/or informative in nature.  While some of this material might concern some who view it, it is material I find appropriate, as do most of the people who might follow these links from my web pages.  However, I do not, in any way, support pornography or anything like it.  While I understand the right of citizens over the age of 18 to view such material and I acknowledge that there are a number of web sites designed to cater to such tastes, I do not condone such sites and would not, intentionally, link to them.

This brings us back to the first point.  While I will not knowingly link to a site that is pornographic or otherwise truly offensive or in poor taste, sites change, often without my knowledge.  Thus, I cannot guarantee that one of my links won't become inappropriate occasionally.  I try to check each link from my web page quarterly to make sure the links still work and the pages are appropriate.  If you run across something I link to directly that you think fits the above description, let me know and I'll be happy to look it over.

However, if you find something offensive being linked to from that web page there is little I can do.  I do not, in any way, control what other people's pages go to and I am not the internet police.  The best advice I can give you regarding this is to contact the web site directly (usually through e-mail) and voice your concerns regarding the page in that way.

In closing, I believe that the internet and the World Web Web are wonderful technologies in the hands of responsible people.  Due to their nature, it is the user that must assume that responsibility.  I can only be responsible for what I create directly.  What you view upon leaving my web site is your responsibility and your choice.  I'll try my best not to get you off to a bad first step, but from there I can't do very much.  Thanks for taking the time to read this.  If you'd like to drop me a line and let me know your thoughts regarding my personal policy here you may do so at cldavies@mac.com or c_davies@gdn.edu
