Rain Today, No Tournament Tomorrow

The Gordon College Women's Softball team was scheduled to play tomorrow (Saturday) in the Darton College Tournament. Due to the excessive amount of rain, the event has been cancelled.

Highlanders Split Opening Series

Sunny skies greeted the Gordon College softball team on Wednesday as they opened the 2010 season at Middle Georgia College. It took an extra inning of play but the Highlanders won their first game of the season 5 – 4. MGC rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning to score two runs and extend the game. The eventual winning run was plated by freshman Kamarin Moon. Sophomores Angela Barkman and Taylor Wilkes combined for six hits in the game while freshman Laura Daughtrey hit a homerun on her first collegiate at bat.

Softball Opens Season Today

The 2010 Gordon College Women’s Softball team will officially begin their spring season today as they travel to Middle Georgia College for an afternoon doubleheader in Cochran. After a very productive fall, the Highlanders are looking forward to this year’s season. Three very talented freshmen will join nine sophomores from last year’s squad including All-Region performers Corby Holmes and Dixie Stewart.

Softball Signing Date Produces Results

January 15th was the first official signing date for women’s softball and it proved to be quite a day for Gordon College! In front of family and friends, ten young ladies signed on the dotted line to be a Highlander in 2010-2011. It was the culmination of long recruiting hours by Head Coach Ally Carter-Hattermann along with assistants Dana Jackson and Steve Turner.

Six Highlanders Earn NFCA Acadmic All-American Honors.

Six softball players earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Scholar-Athlete honors for their efforts in the classroom during the 2008-09 academic year.

Amanda Jones Named NJCAA Distinguished Academic All-American

Jones leads the way with a perfect 4.0 while the rest of the 2009 Highlander softball team was recognized by the NJCAA for their academic excellence.
