Gordon College

COST OF ATTENDANCE

The Cost of Attendance (COA) for student aid purposes is an estimate of the total amount it will cost you to attend Gordon College for a year. It is based on whether or not you are a Georgia resident, your program of study and if you live on or off campus while attending Gordon College. The COA initially assumes full-time enrollment and includes average tuition and fees, books and supplies, room, board, and living expenses. Financial aid Awards which include any State or Federal need-based assistance cannot exceed COA or Established Financial Need.

Expected Family Contribution and Established Financial Need

The U.S. Department of Education uses the information you and your parents (if required) provide on the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) to calculate your Expected Family Contribution (EFC).

Your EFC is not the amount of money your family must provide but should be thought of as an index we use to determine the types and amounts of federal, state and institutional need-based financial aid for which you may qualify.

The Federal Methodology (FM) is the statutory formula used to calculate your EFC. The FM considers your family's income, assets, the number of household members and the number of those members other than parents who are attending college. By you providing Gordon's Federal School Code (001575) on your FAFSA, the Federal Central Processing System (CPS) electronically transmits your processed FAFSA data and EFC to The Gordon College Financial Aid Office.

As previously stated, your EFC does not represent an amount of money owed to Gordon College. Your Established Financial Need (EFN) is the difference between your Cost of Attendance (COA) at Gordon and your EFC.

Your EFC is a primary determinate of your potential eligibility for the Federal Pell Grant. Your EFC and EFN are two of the factors used in determining your potential eligibility for the following programs:

  1. Federal Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)
  2. Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
  3. Federal Work-Study (FWS)
  4. Federal Subsidized Loan
  5. Georgia Leaveraging Educational Assistance Partnership Grant (LEAP)
