BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING
GOALS / OUTCOMES OF THE CURRICULUM
Prepare nurse leaders who will serve the patient both locally and globally by providing nursing care that incorporates the physiological, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects of the individual and community through critical thinking and culturally competent, evidence-based nursing practice.
Program Outcomes:
Upon completion of the baccalaureate nursing program, the graduate will:
- Provide professional nursing care based on scientific knowledge derived from theory and research.
- Apply research findings to practice through the critique of research as well as participate in the development, design and evaluation of research projects.
- Utilize effective therapeutic and professional communication techniques with patients, nursing colleagues, and members of the health care team.
- Use appropriate computer application and information technology as applied to nursing education and practice.
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills as a basis for practice and clinical judgment, and as the foundation for investigating health care issues with individuals and within the community.
- Monitor and evaluate patient outcomes and revise the plan of care through the use of clinical judgment based on the nursing process.
- Implement safe, ethical, competent patient care through knowledge gained from the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and nursing science as a basis of care throughout the life span and in all health care settings.
- Utilize leadership skills to design, coordinate, manage, delegate and act as change agents within the health care system.
- Provide culturally competent care when interacting with individuals and groups which reflects an understanding of diversity among all people and a respect for patient and family preferences.
- Explain the importance of participating in activities to improve the nursing profession and participate in life-long learning.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the political, regulatory, and environmental factors affecting health care and nursing practice.
- Develop a personal plan for career and education development for the five years following graduation from the program.
